Caulk Residue
Caulk is the best solution for creating a watertight seal for joints and seams to keep out water and moisture around tubs, sinks, showers, faucets, doors, windows, toilet seals, flashing, downspouts, etc. It is also used to fill gaps and seams where water isn’t a factor, such as between drywall and baseboard, and ceiling or door trim.
Caulk comes in a variety of materials for either indoor or outdoor use, such as silicone, urethane and latex. Whereas it used to come in basic white and off white, you can now get caulking in more than a hundred colors to match grout, tile, fixtures, paint and just about anything else you want to match.
The Challenge of Caulk Clean Up
Unless you’re super-skilled at caulking—either by hand or with a caulking gun –it can be a very messy job. Caulk is applied as a soft paste squeezed from a tube, but when it hardens –it’s HARD. It will set in about an hour –and cure (become hardened) in 24 hours. This is how and why it’s so great at forming a protective seal but also what makes clean up a challenge. If it gets on a surface other than where you intend it to be, clean it immediately with a damp sponge RIGHT AWAY and be sure to get every last little bit. Don’t even leave a slight smear.
If, however, you don’t get to it until it’s already hardened, you will find that trying to remove hardened smears of caulk from porcelain tubs, glass shower doors, metal faucets, tile, floors, walls or windows can be very difficult.
Until now. Goof Off® Professional removes the tough stuff including hardened caulk from any surface you can think of. It does the job quickly and effectively. Its powerful solvents destroy the bond between the dried caulk and the tile, tub, wall, ceiling, windows, siding, or sink or floor; wherever you have gotten it –without ruining the underlying surface.
So until you have mastered the art of making a seamless “even bead” with a caulking gun or by hand, keep Goof Off® Professional caulk remover handy for all your repair, renovation, and handyman projects around the house or for any workshop or garage stains, spots and spills.
